Principals Message

Welcome to our school community.

Essendon Primary School has a very long history, dating back to 1850. The original location was constructed on Fletcher Street, and was named Essendon Common School. However, in 1875, to accomodate a growing population, the school moved to its current heritage listed site. With such a long history of educating generations of children, I believe that every child has the right to learn, feel safe and play. My role as principal is to ensure we are contiually working towards these fundamental rights for all children who attend, so they experience success socially, emotionally and academically.

At the heart of everything we do is our vision: to empower all students to follow their passions and thrive in a dynamic world. We are committed to creating a learning environment where every child feels inspired, supported, and equipped to reach their full potential.

Our mission is to provide an education that engages, challenges and supports students to be the best they can be within a safe, inclusive and sustainable environment. We believe that every student deserves to feel a strong sense of belonging and to be both nurtured and challenged in their learning journey.

Central to this work are our core values of respect, responsibility, kindness, resilience and achievement. These values underpin our daily practice and are explicitly taught and reinforced to ensure we provide a safe, supportive and positive learning environment for all students. They guide how we learn, interact and grow as a community. We are equally driven by our objective to develop students who are curious and creative problem solvers, and responsible global citizens. In an ever-changing world, we prioritise the development of critical thinking, collaboration and adaptability, ensuring our students are prepared not only for academic success but for life beyond the classroom.

Our school thrives on strong sense of community and partnerships between students, staff, families and the wider community. Together, we create a culture of respect, inclusion and continuous improvement, where every individual is valued and every voice matters.
